On Tuesday November 22 Mr. Cowen came in to my English class to talk about his Genius Hour Project. I loved his speech about his 3-D Printer that he made. I would like to set up my speech about my Genius Hour Project like he did. Mr. Cowen started off by explaining why he chose to make a 3-D printer and then how he made it. Then he showed us what he can do with his 3-D printer and brought in some examples. He showed how this can be used to help out the community. He interacted with the audience by showing them things that he made with his 3-D printer and what they are used for. Mr. Cowen used a power point also to show what a 3-D printer entails. I enjoyed Mr. Cowen's presentation about his Genius Hour project.

First off, I would like to apologize for the late post. Last Tuesday, the 15th of November, I was at the Northern Lights YMCA handing out more herbs. I gave out Chives, Parsley, Sage, and Rosemary. I had a blast giving them away and meeting new people.
In the Future I have 15 more plants to give away and have not yet determined where I will set up my stand quite yet. The plants are very big now and will need to be re-potted when they are with their new owners. I am still taking care of them to the best of my abilities. I can not wait to meet more people and share with them my project and knowledge. This Week
Throughout the week I continued to take care of my plants. I also printed off the recipes I would give out with my "business card" and herbs. There is a link in my resources page to the site where I found the recipes if you would like more. I handed out 10 plants at the Northern Lights YMCA. (4 chives, 4 Parsley, and 2 Sage). I also made Cheddar Biscuits with Chive Butter for people to try! I had a blast giving away herbs and can not wait to do it again! Next Week I plan to give away ten more herbs on November 15, which is next Tuesday. I have not decided what types of herbs I will be giving out yet. The author who wrote this article had a different look at how to explain a genius. He said geniuses know “how” to think instead of “what” to think. The author also said that geniuses are not necessarily the smartest person or the one with the best IQ. They are the ones that keep searching even after they have found what they are looking for. The definition of genius is a little different in a dictionary. The dictionary would say that a genius is someone who is very intelligent or creative. The author believes there is much more to a genius that just being intelligent. There are eight strategies shared by geniuses: they look at problems in many different ways, make their thoughts visible, produce, make novel combinations, force relationships, think in opposites, think metaphorically, and prepare themselves for chance. My genius hour project encourages me to make my thoughts visible by constantly coming up with different ways to make my project better and more complex. My project also encourages me to look at problems in many different ways. I have realized that it is OK to fail. It gives me a chance to fix my project and learn from mistakes of the past.
This Week This past week I continued to water my plants and trim them. They are getting really big now! Next Week Next week will be that first week I start to give out plants. I will pick four plants to give out. They will have a recipe and other unique things that someone can use the herb for. |
